What Happened
On June 15, 2025, a tragic kedarnath helicopter crash occurred near Garudchatti in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand. The helicopter, operated by Aryan Aviation, was carrying six pilgrims and one pilot when it crashed due to poor weather conditions. All seven on board lost their lives.

As soon as the crash was reported, SDRF, ITBP, and local rescue teams reached the spot. The wreckage was on fire, and the bodies were recovered with difficulty.
One passenger was initially rescued alive but later succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
Identification of Victims
Authorities are in the process of confirming the identities of the deceased. The victims reportedly belonged to various Indian states. Families have been informed, and official announcements are expected soon.
Government Response On Kedarnath Helicopter Crash
- The Uttarakhand government has suspended Aryan Aviation’s operational license temporarily.
- A high-level inquiry has been initiated.
- ₹10 lakh ex-gratia compensation has been announced for each victim’s family.
- Additional safety checks are being conducted on other helicopters operating in the region.
Previous Incidents in the Region
This is not the first helicopter-related tragedy in Kedarnath:
- In 2013, an Indian Air Force Mi-17 crashed during flood relief operations, killing 20 people.
- Seasonal fog, narrow terrain, and unpredictable weather make this route highly vulnerable.
